Need some new places to visit in Northamptonshire when lockdown is lifted? Look no further…
It was amazing to see how many new businesses still managed to open their doors during the height of lockdown and adapted.
There’s a couple of new places that I haven’t had a chance to visit yet due to the lockdown and not being able to venture far, but I wanted to put together a list of places, not only for my reference, but to keep you notified in case you haven’t heard of these new places.
Some of these places will be able to offer outdoor seating come April 12th, whilst others will still be adapting as a takeaway service, hopefully this gives you some inspiration to get out and support these local businesses when and where you can.
I’m including some fairly recent places that opened during last year and haven’t really had much of a chance to shine due to the lockdown, or places that have or are opening in 2021.
So if you’re looking for some new cafes and restaurants to visit in 2021, I’ve got you covered…
Ugly Mug
A lovely new independent coffee house has come to Wellingborough!
Ugly Mug opened last year, but has since operated as a takeaway only and following them on instagram and seeing their flair, style and incredibly tasty looking photos, it’s one for my list of places to visit when I can!
They serve the finest locally roasted coffee which means no instant, no express and no pods – Wellingborough has been in need of an independent coffee house that would stand out from the crowd.
Their interior looks minimalist and stylish and it really looks like a cosy place to sit down with a cup of coffee and enjoy some of their many baked treats.
You can find Ugly Mug on 28 Church Street, Wellingborough, NN8 4PA.
Hobbs Coffee Bar
Another new coffee shop has landed in Towcester – they’re a coffee shop with a community.
Hobbs Coffee Bar opened in February this year and they are here to serve award winning coffee, locally baked cakes and paninis made fresh by them.
They have recently appointed local baker, Brodersens Bageri to bring some of her stunning bakes to the shop like her milk chocolate and white chocolate cookies, banana muffins and much more.
The coffee is provided by The Roastery, another Northamptonshire based coffee roaster where every cup has a distinct flavour and strong essence, so you know their coffee is going to be good.
Although they are relatively new, they have big plans, one including to knock through the back wall to create an outdoor seating area ready to serve more guests safely when lockdown measures ease in April.
You can find Hobbs Coffee Bar on 7 Swinneyford Road, Towcester, NN12 6HD.
Saints Coffee
Saints Coffee are more than just a coffee shop, they are a social enterprise too.
I recently featured Saints Coffee on my Guide to Independent Coffee Roasters in Northamptonshire blog post, but very soon, they will be able to open their doors on St Giles Street.
Saints Coffee want to bring a new, high quality and ethical coffee shop to Northampton which will give back to the community, therefore, social impact is at the heart of everything they do.
Once lockdown restrictions ease, expect them to open their doors where they’ll be serving their coffee blends (which you can currently order online) as well as their bean to bar chocolates.
Check out their website here and follow them on Instagram.
MooHatch
If you love your burgers, then you will be seriously impressed with these guys…
MooHatch are not your average burger van. They offer chuck steak, hand formed, ‘smash’ griddled burgers for breakfast, lunch and they use ingredients from local businesses too, including whittlebury bakery.
They are a food vendor which currently sits Monday – Friday at Old Greens Norton Road, Towcester (next to the Aldi car park) and they offer their evenings burgers at Bugbrooke Rugby Club on Fridays.
We recently went down and enjoyed one of their specials ‘The Stilverton’ which consisted of double burgers, wild rocket, Stilton cheese, red onion chutney on a toasted brioche!
They have a great menu for both breakfast and lunch including breakfast burgers, breakfast baps, regular burgers, weekly specials and even toasties!
Check them out on Instagram and Facebook for more information.
Common Ground
Somewhere to bring your fluffy friends on your walk!
Common Ground opened in late 2020 and it replaced the old shop that was situated at Delapre Abbey to create a new ‘dog walking’ friendly deli where you can grab coffee on the go.
It’s brought to us by Tom Hewer Hospitality, who already bring popular venues such as The Artisan, John Franklin’s and The Orangery on the site of Delapré Abbey.
You can expect dog treats, cleaner options for fitness fanatics, chutneys, snacks, fresh bread and of course, your takeaway coffee from The Roastery.
I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek and I look forward to visiting properly soon.
You can find Common Ground at Delapré Abbey on London Road, Northampton, NN4 8AW.
Clarke & Dean
A delightful little cafe bar for you to visit if you haven’t already…
Clarke & Dean opened their doors back in June 2020 and have since been offering their wonderful delicacies including breakfast baps, pastries, vegan bites, home baked goods and of course… coffee!
Once again, they are currently open for takeaway only but until indoor eating and drinking is allowed, they will be operating as a takeaway only.
However, they are currently operating their Clarke & Dean Supper Club at home with a different menu on different nights between Thursday and Saturday with options ranging from Spinach and Ricotta Cannelloni, Beef Stroganoff and much more.
So whether you’re out for a walk and fancy takeaway goodies, or want something sophisticated for your evening at home, Clarke & Dean are your guys. I can’t wait to have a proper sit down meal there soon!
You can find Clarke & Dean on 169 Watling Street, Towcester, NN12 6BX.
81 The Original Diner
Guess who’s back, back again… kinda!
81 the Original Diner, as mentioned, is the Original American Diner, which you may have known by it’s former name, Buddies, which was born in 1981 and has come back and has been reborn in 2020!
They will be offering a breakfast, lunch & bar, starters & burgers, dessert, kids and main course menu once everyone can sit in, but they are currently offering a takeaway menu which you can order via their website or by calling them on 01604 814757.
Expect legendary burgers, ribs, dirty fries, super sundaes, American breakfasts and much more.
I can’t wait!
You can find 81 the Diner on London Road, Grange Park, Northampton, NN4 0LY.
Gallones Ice Cream
We all know and love Gallones Ice Cream already, right?
Well, guess what… They are opening a new parlour in Towcester!
Gallones have been making the tastiest ice cream for over 100 years, from ice cream sundaes, shakes and desserts. If you’ve visited one of their parlours before, you will know how good they taste.
I am SO excited they are coming to Towcester which means summer is going to taste even sweeter and it means their parlour will only be a stones throw away if I need an ice cream fix!
Gallone’s will be opening its doors in Towcester in April and you can find them on Unit 3a, Sponne Shopping Centre, Watling Street, NN12 6BY.
Flo & Co
A food vendor you need to check out for your breakfast!
Flo & Co create delicious home cooked food on the go and you can pre-order in advance for your breakfast fix! They also stock Blakesley Heath Sausages and they are open for lunch too.
From sausage rolls, breakfast baps, to coffee and brownies, you can find them at Unit 1, Ashby Road, Towcester, NN12 6PG.
Obviously, I am always on the look out for new food business opening in Northamptonshire and I am only one person, so let me know if there are any new food businesses I should add on here and check out (lockdown restrictions permitting!)
Let’s keep going out and supporting our local businesses as much as possible.
These places sound so lovely! I’ve never been to Northampton but I might be going soon so I’ll keep a look out x
