I’m hating you all with a dose of #MondayMotivation (or whatever day you’re reading this motivation) all about Self Improvement.
During the end of last year, I was feeling stuck in a rut, a normal routine, and I was getting bored.
I was going to work, doing what was required of me, coming home and feeling like I didn’t achieve much and sit at home until I had to do it all again.
My blog lacked in content, I lost my writing mojo and I felt uninspired to work on my content at work and on my blog.
Life was stuck with me doing the same old thing. I was content in going to work, coming home, then my social life would lead me down the pub with my friends.
I’ve come into 2018 with a whole new outlook on what I want to achieve this year and I understand now that it’s not a case of waiting for things to happen for me. If I want something to improve, I have to work on it myself.
That means; actually putting in some extra hours to make something happen, or change existing habits that I’ve created and slightly adapting them in order to slowly change.
I don’t mean to say I’m going to become this whole new person and it’s another ‘new year, new me’ scandal.
But if I want to achieve the things I want to achieve, I’m going to have to give myself a kick up the butt in order to achieve greater things.
This relates to my personal life, friendships, relationships, career progression, health and other areas in my life.
I’ve divided it up into 5 sections:
Let’s talk about Self Improvement
What is Self Improvement?
By definition: Self-improvement is the improvement of one’s knowledge, status, or character by one’s own efforts. It’s the quest to make ourselves better in any and every facet of life.
Without self improvement, how can you expect to grow and improve areas in your life?
Areas for self-improvement
Blog
- Start posting regular content again. Content that I’m proud of writing and sharing and making Nicole Navigates a brand that I’m truly proud of.
- Get my monthly newsletters back up and running. Practise what makes a great email campaign and engage with my readers more and what they want to see.
- Improve on my photography. Get better shots for flatlays, get someone to take more blog photography of myself and get my face on my brand more.
Career
- Get my Google Digital Garage certificate. Spend half an hour each day on completing lessons and
- Find more courses/local coaching sessions to attend. Always strive to grow my existing skills and learn new skills in order to benefit my work. Finally get some qualifications in digital marketing and writing under my belt in order to progress.
- Time management. There’s no such thing as ‘no time’. Always find a way of using my time pro-activtley.
- Find a Creative Writing course to complete. Push myself in writing more fiction, non-fiction, articles, opinion pieces, novels, short stories, song lyrics and blogs. There’s always something to write about.
Life
- Improve on my spending and budget habits. Don’t spend money on unnecessary things and think more about what that unnecessary spending could go towards.
- Be less messy. Find a way to clean clutter out of my room, ensure my room is tidy and always kept on top of and get rid of unnecessary items that I no longer need.
- Stay off social media after a certain time. Put the phone away after 10pm and stop scrolling on social media. Instead, read a book in order to try and wind down and relax after a day of work.
Relationships
- Don’t settle for anything less. Remember that you are worth someone’s time, effort and love. Don’t make excuses for people to treat you badly. Always remember your self worth.
- Evaluate friendships. Who is making the effort to be your friend? Who is worth keeping around? If there’s a supposed “friend” that isn’t being a real friend to you, cut them out. Life is too short for having people in your life who are not worth keeping.
- Go with the flow. Enjoy the company of others, without over-worrying on what might happen.
Health
- Start exercising more regularly. Go to the gym, or go swimming at least twice a week. Stop making excuses. Walk into my local town rather than using my car on weekends.
- Get back into making breakfast smoothies. Experiment with fruits and vegetables and enjoy it as part of a balanced diet, rather than cut down on the things I enjoy.
I believe in making things happen for yourself, so I suppose it’s better late than never!
Here’s to growing and always trying to become a better person.
